Introducing the Fledgling Writers Network - the Discord server for fledgling writers and writers with fledgling writing projects.
Coming to the end of some creative writing courses, a friend and I wanted a space where we could discuss our writing endeavours (read: frustrations) with more oomph (and accountability). That’s why we started the Fledgling Writer’s Network server on Discord.
What is Discord?
Personally, I like to think of Discord as many of the different messaging apps rolled into one. In other words, there’s more efficient gif-finding/music-sharing/message-reacting/font-changing, and so on. Plus, I’m tinkering with the bots regularly to make FWN more useful for writers:
Need lifting up after an unfruitful writing session? Try typing !reassure into a message in the server and see if Writers-Bot can help.
Another feature of Discord that makes it a great platform for FWN? Mutes and pings. Silence the server if necessary, we won’t mind.
The most important thing about Discord is that it’s free and easy to join, which means that it’s also free and easy to join the Fledgling Writers Network. Special mentions to the gifs though - they’re very handy.
Who’s invited?
Any writer, any genre, any level of experience. Read the Welcome Note and then head over to the Pick-Your-Poison channel to assign your roles. My recommendation, if you haven’t found your go-to yet, is to start with the @Wandering Creative and go from there.
Tagging a role sets you up to get pinged for your assigned literary form. Once you’ve assigned yourself the role, you’ll get notified when it has been used - like in the Open-for-Submissions channel where everyone can share links to the magazines and journals that are open for submission.
Once you’re verified, have a mooch among the channels and jump in anywhere that suits your fancy. Don’t see anything for you? Hit us up in the Suggestion-Box channel.
